Lilly Winwood at the Bandshell Bash | News, Sports, Jobs
GOWRIE – Country-rock musician Lilly Winwood is due to perform at the Bandshell Bash in Gowrie on Saturday.
Lilly Winwood is the daughter of British rock star Steve Winwood, who is best known for her solo work in the 80s and her work with bands such as Traffic and Blind Faith in the 70s. Having grown up both in Nashville and in the UK, his music infuses American and country music with elements of early British rock ‘n’ roll to create his smooth, almost dreamlike music.
Opening for Lilly Winwood is Jesse Wilson and Friends. They are a local act from central Iowa.
Both bands recently released new singles, which the Gowrie Area Arts Council highlighted in promotion for the gig.
The concert is promoted by the Gowrie Area Arts Council and conducted by Duane Davis, who discovered Lilly Winwood’s music while opening for her father in 2018 in Minneapolis. Davis said the purpose of the council and the concert is to “bringing new music to Iowa.” Iowa is generally considered a secondary market in the music industry where new music is slow to arrive and catch on. This concert will help introduce these up-and-coming artists to the community in a fun environment to foster the growth of the arts in Gowrie.
Davis also said they wanted to show their support for up-and-coming artists like Lilly Winwood and local artists like Jesse Wilson and Friends, as opposed to an artist with decades of work who doesn’t necessarily benefit from increased exposure. like these other acts.
The show starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to last until 10:30 p.m. The concert will take place at Gowrie City Park located at 1407 Market St. in Gowrie. The show is free. Food and drinks will be available. This is another objective of the Arts Council, to make the show open and accessible to as many people as possible. Although the show is free, the concessions will help fund the Council’s goals in the future.
