SERC Early Childhood Studies student Sylvia Yue has won the Stranmillis University College Achievement Award, for achieving the highest academic achievement of any student at Queens University Belfast Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies in the 6 regional colleges of Northern Ireland.
Sylvia Yue is from Hong Kong. Since the birth of her son in 2016, she has developed an interest in early childhood education. After researching online and comparing different courses, Sylvia identified SERC as the best path for her to further her education. She began her educational journey at SERC Newtownards in 2017, taking the CACHE Level 3 Diploma course in Child Care, Learning and Development, then progressed to the QUB Foundation Diploma in Childhood Studies, where she won the Excellence Award for her outstanding academic results. achievement.
When she received the award, Sylvia comments, “It was such a big surprise, and I heard the news of the award on my 40th birthday! I couldn’t believe I had won the prize because all my classmates were doing exceptionally well. In fact, I was told that the top 3 Foundation Degree students were from our class, and that just shows the level of effort that my classmates and I put into our work.
“English is not my first language, so it was an extra challenge regarding my lessons and my placement, but it was overcome thanks to the support of my SERC tutors and classmates. I am also grateful for the help and understanding from my family and friends, without them I would never have been able to achieve this. Overall, I am very happy to have won the Excellence Award, my hard work over the past few years has bearing fruit !
